IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Safety Precautions

The following are some safety tips which will help you maintain safety for you and others around you as you install the Natural Palm Light.

Organize parts and check for damage

Open the package and make sure that you have all of the following parts before you begin.

·         Trunk (Pole)

·         Branches - A, B, C, D (possibly D depending on tree size)

·         Rebar Kit

·         Coconut Hair

·         Coconuts – (optional)

Installation of Trunk

Required Tools

  1. When lifting the trunk be careful not to scrap along the ground. To prevent scraping the tree the strap should be place in a perpendicular position to the ground so that the tree will lift straight up and not drag first. Also, remember to place strap slightly above the middle of the trunk toward the top of the tree. This will allow the tree to rise with the top end up.
  2. Once you have raised the trunk, carefully move it into position over the base. Place the appropriate holes over the bolts.
  3. Lower the tree trunk down on the bolts.  Make sure electrical wiring comes up underneath the center part of the tree trunk to the lower electrical door on the trunk before you tighten down the trunk. After trunk is lowered down on base, be careful not to damage threads on the bolts.  Tighten bolts down.
  4. Place the 4 big washers on first.  Use level on washers to insure tree will be level. You may need to adjust nuts up or down to level.  Put on the 4 locking washers and lastly securely tighten the 4 remaining nuts last.

ELECTRICAL WORK

It is recommended to maintain the correct and constant flow of electricity, a dedicated 110 volt electrical line with ground be installed.  If this is not possible, have a qualified electrician test the harmonics of the line you have chosen to use. Power sources that have tendencies to fluctuate can cause the control boxes to fail. Outdoor Connection will not be responsible for problems relating to product failure due to this problem. New control boxes cost between $100.00 and $200.00 depending on the size and model of the tree.

We strongly recommend that our clients install the power lines in conduit. This will reduce the cost of replacement to the client should the tree or power lines need to be replaced. Outdoor Connection will not be responsible for electrical components that are not part of the trees.

ELECTRICAL WORK – continued

BE SURE TO HAVE ONLY A LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR OR ELECTRICIAN CONNECT THE ELECTRIAL POWER LINES TO THE POWER CONNECTION OF THE TREE.

Installation of Branches

Required Parts

Required Tools

  1. Separate all the branches in accordance with their designated letter. The branches will be labeled as follows; A, B, C and sometimes D – depending on the tree size.
  2. Note; the letter on the branch will have a corresponding letter on the cable attached to the crown.
  3. Slightly bend branches to give the tree a natural look. (Do not bend 2 top branches.  These 2 branches are leader branches.) Spine part of the branch should be on the bottom with leaves pointing up when bending.  The spine part of branch should be the bottom with the leaves pointing up when installing branch.
  4. When attaching the branches, it is best to start with the branches at the top and work your way down. This will allow you more room to work and prevent the branches from interfering and getting in the way as you work.
  5. Using a man lift, place metal insert into the appropriate slot on crown. Attach branch cable wire to crown cable wire. Be sure that the letters match. For example, A with A, B with B, C with C and so on.
  6. After matching cable wire have been plugged together, fasten down screw.
  7. Repeat process from top to bottom until all branches have been installed.

BE SURE TO INSTALL BRANCHED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. THIS MEANS INSTALLING ALL A’S THEN ALL B’S THEN ALL C’S AND SO ON.

Installation of Coconuts (optional)  and Coconut Hair

Coconuts and Coconut Hair are provided to give the trees a finished natural look.

  1. Three (3) coconuts (optional) should be placed on each side of the tree.
  2. The coconuts should be tie wired to the end connections of the frond branches.
  3. Be careful not to have the tie wire interfere with the electrical wiring.  Be certain you place the copper tie wire for coconuts and coconut hair on metal part of frond so movement due to the wind will not damage the electrical wires.

The coconut hair is provided to cover up the wiring and to give the trees a natural look.

  1. Place the coconut hair over exposed wires
  2. Tuck the coconut hair behind the coconuts
  3. Anchor down coconut hair.  The coconut hair must be wrapped with the copper wiring to ensure it will not be blown away by the wind. You can also use fishing wire and wrap it around the tree to secure all the hair.
